I've been digging the shit out of Korean food lately. The problem is there are very few places on the west side. Tofu-Ya is on Sawtelle. It's owned by the same people who own Asahi Ramen, which is amazing, a few doors down. What I love about Korean food, especailly Korean barbecue, is the pan chan or side dishes. Although Tofu-Ya only gives you five: kimchee, cucumber kimchee, glass noodles, tofu, and bean sprouts, I love it. I used to only get their short ribs, a dish I order as often as possible, but the other day I had beef bulgogi, which was delicious. It had a tinge of sweetness, which nicely offset the salt and spice of the kimchee. My meat and veritable buffet of pan chan came out to fifteen bucks. I was stuffed and stuffing me is no easy feat. I feel that Sawtelle has possibly the best concentration of food and any street in Los Angeles. And Tofu-Ya is usually my first choice for lunch, which is saying a lot.
